Tracking the Tropics
As we head into the middle of this upcoming week, things become more unsettled with some tropical moisture moving into the area. This means an increase in the humidity and higher rain chances.
There is still a lot of time for changes to happen to the tropical development that is expected through the weekend.
Two areas of low pressure are being monitored by the National Hurricane Center. The low that is near the Lesser Antilles has a 10% chance of development but is expected to merge with the broad area of low pressure in the southern Caribbean as that tracks northward in the next few days. The southern Caribbean disturbance has an 80% chance of developing into a tropical depression within the next few days as it absorbs the energy of the other low.
This will then begin tracking westward and towards the Gulf of Mexico. Regardless of development, at this time locally heavy rain is expected for Cuba, the Bahamas and South Florida. If this systems strengthens enough to receive an name, it would be Rafael.
Subtropical storm Patty developed overnight, but this is not expected to bring any impacts to the U.S. It is subtropical because it is in much colder waters in the northern Atlantic. It is bringing windy weather to the Azores and will keep windy conditions in their forecast through the weekend.
