It’s the fall equinox with the official time beginning at 8:44 am! We’ve lost roughly 1 hour and 40 minutes of daylight since the summer solstice to the autumn equinox! We will lose roughly another hour and a half of daylight between now and the start of winter.
It’s still feeling like summer in South Florida and across most of the country. There has been an abundance of above-average temps for the majority of the US in the last week, heading into the season change.
Lows this morning have been in the upper 70s but very little rain activity is expected to start the day. This is normal for this time of year. Isolated to widely scattered showers will return for the afternoon.
Highs today will reach near 90 degrees with feel-like conditions in the upper 90s so not expecting heat alerts. Isolated shower chances are expected as high pressure sits in the gulf and the stalled front is to our south. This puts us on the slightly* drier side of the front making it a tad harder for storms to become widespread. It’ll still be a warm and muggy day though.

Heading into the start of the week, we’ll keep the northerly wind and slightly milder air in place. The sea breeze returns by Tuesday and rain chances start to ramp back up leading into the middle of this upcoming week.
TROPICS
There are three areas being watched in the Atlantic but the one in the western Caribbean is the one that we’ll be watching. Still a 70% chance of developing in the next 7 days. A broad area of low pressure is expected to develop in the next few days. This could be a tropical depression as it moves northward and into the Gulf of Mexico by the end of the week. Regardless of development, its track will bring rain showers and an increase in tropical moisture. We’ll be watching it closely as the track will determine how many indirect impacts we feel here.
