We kick off Election Day with gloomy skies and an increasing wind throughout the day.

There is a Wind Advisory in effect for coastal Broward and Miami-Dade until 1 a.m. on Wednesday for gusts as high as 40 mph.

We’ll watch for wind gust as high as 40mph along the coast and in the order of 30-35mph for inland locations.

Periods of scattered showers are also on the ballot Tuesday.

The windy conditions will actually increase as Rafael makes its closest approach to South Florida on Wednesday.

On Wednesday, the SPC has the keys under a slight risk of severe weather (level 2 out of 5) and Southern Miami-Dade in a Marginal Risk (level 1 out of 5) -- specially for the tornado threat any one of these outer bands can carry.

Periods of tropical rainfall is certainly on tap for us Wednesday, although the heaviest rain will remain over the gulf of Mexico.

Rain will impact commuters Thursday morning. However, those chances diminish as we roll into Thursday afternoon.

Drier and calmer conditions are likely Friday and Saturday. Sunday may feature a few more showers as a weak disturbance crosses through south Florida.
