Meteorologist Steve MacLaughlin has the latest forecast Friday, Sept. 27, 2024.

With Helene, now a tropical depression lifting to the north, our weather continues to improve and the weekend looks great, especially by Sunday.

There are still some scattered and gusty rain bands that will spiral through this evening and then become isolated overnight.

Saturday’s rain chances are only 30% and an argument could be made that it is even drier than that. But given how big and now slow the remnants of Helene will be, we are playing it safe on Saturday, but dropping Sunday’s rain chances to 10%!

Beachgoers need to watch out for rip currents on Saturday, and the beach should be a fantastic place to be weatherwise.

The tropics are quite active with five areas on the map. First is Helene, of course. Out in the Open Atlantic, Hurricane Isaac, Tropical Storm Joyce and a new wave just off the coast of Africa are of zero concern to us. They will all curl up and away.

That leaves us with the fifth and most ominous area that looks similar to Helene’s development area a week ago. Development chances in the Caribbean and Gulf are at 30%.

We’ll keep an eye on this area over the next week and see how our models evolve. For now, it’s another system that needs to be monitored by the entire Gulf Coast from Texas to Florida.
