Watch NBC6 Live Hurricane Milton Tracker as it is expected to make landfall later Wednesday on the west coast of Florida, according to the National Hurricane Center.
According to the NHC's latest advisory, as of 7 p.m. ET, Milton is expected to make landfall as a Category 3 storm slightly south of Tampa and near Sarasota on set for Wednesday night, though its track could change.
Storm surge warnings are currently active along most of Florida’s western coast, and there are storm warnings across much of the state.
The state has currently set up 149 general population shelters throughout the state to accommodate the residents in 11 counties currently under evacuation orders.
