Milton increased to a Category 2 hurricane early Monday morning and is expected to make landfall Wednesday on the west coast of Florida as a Category 3, according to the National Hurricane Center.
The storm was about 195 miles west-northwest of Progreso, Mexico, and 750 miles west-southwest of Tampa, Florida. With maximum sustained winds of 100 mph, it was moving east-southeast at 8 mph, the hurricane center said in a 5 a.m. advisory Monday.
