Some familiar names are among those cut by the Dolphins this weekend as they trimmed their roster down to 53 guys.
(And some of the names are most familiar as curses uttered from the Sun Life.)
But fullback Lousaka Polite was surprisingly among them, after starting 24 games over the last three years and hearing the constant praise of fullback-loving head coach Tony Sparano.
In far less surprising news, cornerback Will Allen saw his contract terminated Saturday, and corner/safety Nate Ness was waived.
The Larry Johnson experiment is also over. The two-time Pro-Bowl running back's contract was also terminated, a week after the 31-year-old signed on with Miami.
Tackle Lydon Murtha was placed on injured reserve despite appearing to play healthy in the pre-season. Murtha has reportededly been shelved for a toe ligament injury, meaning he won't hit the field until the 2012 season.
The Dolphins, however, are clearly not done tinkering. They are not likely to keep six receivers, still need to find a backup quarterback, and may make moves quickly as players like former Pats safety Brandon Meriweather, a UM product, become unrestricted free agents.
