A large UPS cargo plane crashed Wednesday morning upon approach at the airport in Birmingham, Ala., killing its pilot and co-pilot. The Airbus 300 was traveling from Louisville, Ky., when it crashed at 6 a.m., the Federal Aviation Administration said. There were multiple explosions and debris that stretched about a half-mile at the scene, NBC affiliate WVTM reported. The National Transportation Safety Board said Wednesday it was investigating, and UPS said it would participate in the probe. "All of us at UPS extend our deepest sympathies to the families and friends of these two crewmembers," the company's CEO said. "Our efforts now are primarily focused on helping the families." This is the third UPS plane to have crashed in the past three years, according to NBC News.
