Friend of Accused Charleston Church Shooter Arrested: Officials

A friend of the alleged Charleston church shooter was arrested Thursday, an official close to the investigation told NBC News.

The arrest comes a month after authorities told Joseph Meek, Jr., he was under investigation for lying to them and failing to report a crime, the Associated Press reported.

The source did not specify the charges for NBC News.

Meek was a friend of Dylann Roof, the white man who opened fire on the historic Emanuel African Methodist Church in Charleston, South Carolina, killing nine parishioners.

Days before the killings, Meek said Roof told he he wanted "segregation" and said "he didn't believe in what the black race was doing to the white race," NBC News reported
