The Federal Aviation Administration on Sunday proposed new rules that would allow the commercial use of drones throughout the U.S., The Associated Press reported. The proposal lays out requirements such as passing a knowledge test administered by the FAA and a security check by the Transportation Safety Administration in order to fly small drones, defined as weighing less than 55 pounds. It is likely to be two or three years before the rules are made final, but once they are in place they will play a "transformative role" in urban infrastructure management, farming, public safety, and many other fields, the White House said in a statement.
