Police are investigating after a teenage girl was struck by a stray bullet during a shooting in Miami Gardens Monday night.
The shooting happened around 8:45 p.m. in an alley way behind a shopping center at 20400 Northwest 2nd Court, police said.
The girl, Nevilisha Frances, 13, a young tennis player, was in her backyard at the time of the shooting, was struck by a stray bullet and taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital by her parents, police said.
Police said she was in stable condition.
Several bullet holes were found in a nearby residence and several bullet casings were found at the scene.
Police haven't given any other information about the shooting or possible suspects.
"The neighborhood's been more violent," said her older brother Ramario Frances, who wants the family to move.
In August, another girl was hit by a stray bullet. Tequila Forshee, 12, was killed, shot while her grandmother was doing her hair. Still, no one has been arrested for her death.
Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
