Police have made an arrest after they say a woman tried to kidnap a 6-year-old boy from an art gallery in Miami's Design District.
The incident happened the afternoon of March 4 at Swampspace Gallery at 3940 N. Miami Avenue, Miami Police said. The boy normally goes to the gallery to spend time with the owner and the owner's daughter, police said.
According to police, the woman entered the gallery through an open rear door, and the owner, who didn't know her, asked her to leave the premises. As she left, she grabbed the boy by the arm and walked away with him.
The owner wasn't sure if the woman was related to the boy, so the owner ran out and confronted the woman and was able to grab the boy and bring him back to the gallery. The woman walked away from the scene.
"There was no hesitation about what I felt was necessary to do at the moment. I grew up in this neighborhood so I care a lot about the place, I care about the kids," gallery owner Oliver Sanchez said.
Officers arrived and canvassed the area for the woman but she wasn't found. The boy's parents were also contacted.
Police said later Monday that an arrest had been made in the case after television viewers identified the suspect. Officials haven't released the name of the suspect or said what charges they face.
