Mila Dago is sentenced to four years in prison as part of a plea deal in a fatal 2013 crash that killed her Smart Car passenger.

A woman who was charged in a downtown Miami crash that killed a Smart Car passenger two years ago was sentenced to four years in prison as part of a plea deal Friday.

Mila Anjelika Dago, 24, pleaded guilty to one count of DUI manslaughter in the August 2013 crash on Biscayne Boulevard.

In addition to the prison term, she'll serve 10 years of probation, will have to perform community service and had her driver's license revoked for life.

"When you take those actions, you must pay for the consequences and justice was served today," the victim's brother said.

Had she been found guilty in a trial, Dago would have been facing a maximum of 17 years in prison.

Police said Dago was drunk with almost twice the legal limit of alcohol when she crashed into a pickup truck on Biscayne Boulevard near Northeast 15th Street just before 5 a.m. Her passenger, 22-year-old Irina Reinoso, was killed at the scene. The driver of the truck was also hospitalized but later released.

"I stand here today not with hate, only sorrow. But convinced that the wrong decision taken by Miss Dago and driving intoxicated," said Reinoso's mother, Ivania Reinoso.

Dago stood listening to the victim's mother, her own parents next to her. She had been out on bond since the fatal crash two years ago. Dago tearfully addressed the victim's family, speaking to them in Spanish through an interpreter.

"In which I drove drunk and my friend Irina lost her life. I know that no explanation, no extensive apology will ever heal the gaping wound left in your hearts," Dago said.

Dago was also hospitalized in critical condition after the crash.

"It's important that the public understand that there are consequences for getting behind the wheel of a car knowing that you're intoxicated," said Marie Mato, prosecutor.
