A woman was hospitalized in critical condition after she was struck by a hit-and-run driver while riding a scooter in northeast Miami-Dade Monday night, police said.

Police said the woman was on a scooter when she was struck by a vehicle.
After the woman was struck, two people who were inside the vehicle fled the scene on foot, police said.

Footage from the scene showed the damaged red scooter down on the sidewalk. A Nissan sedan that was also damaged appeared to have been abandoned in the middle of the roadway.

A witness who saw the woman being struck said there were two women inside the vehicle.

"I was at the bus stop and the girls ran a red light in the car," said the witness. "The girl was pulling out on a green light, they ran a red light, ran her over. They ran her over."
The witness said he also saw the two young women flee the scene.
"They left the car, they ran through the park twice and they came back to the car to get evidence," he said.
The woman was transported to hospital in critical condition. Her identity hasn't been released.
The incident remains under investigation.
