Man arrested after fatally shooting wife outside Opa-locka restaurant: Police

Police found the woman shot several times after responding to a restaurant in Opa-locka.

A man was arrested after fatally shooting his wife outside of a restaurant late Thursday in Opa-locka, police said.

Police said they responded to reports about a woman unresponsive inside a car outside Paloma Cafe at 4073 NW 135th Street at around 10:31 p.m.

Axell Ruben Picado, 45, was arrested and faces charges of second-degree murder with a weapon, according to an arrest affidavit.

Investigators said Picado was leaving the restaurant after drinking when he was approached by the victim, his wife of over 20 years.

The two got into a verbal dispute, which escalated when Picado took out his firearm from his waistband and shot the victim as she sat in the driver's seat of her vehicle, the affidavit stated.

The victim, who had been shot multiple times, was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital Ryder Trauma Center, police said. She was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Police haven't identified the victim.
