A man was arrested Saturday for allegedly killing his ex-boyfriend and setting his Wilton Manors apartment on fire, officials said.
Michael Mitchell, 38, faces murder and arson charges in the killing of 40-year-old John Young, the Broward Sheriff's Office announced Monday.
On May 9, Fort Lauderdale fire officials and Wilton Manors police responded to a fire at an apartment in the 200 block of Northwest 25th Street, where they found Young's body, BSO said.
According to detectives, Mitchell and Young had recently broken up, but "the relationship left behind a well-documented history of domestic abuse," BSO officials said.
Mitchell was found Saturday in Oakland Park and was taken into custody. He was booked into jail and is facing one count of first-degree murder and one count of first-degree arson. Attorney information was not available.
