The wife of the man gunned down by her ex-husband testified Wednesday in day two of the murder trial.

Jennifer Winters took the witness stand and described the moments four years ago when she saw her ex-husband, Cristobal Palacio, kill her husband Paul Winter.

"He paused, aimed, would put the gun down slightly, walk forward, re-aim and then as my husband was down, he put the gun almost all the way down," she testified.

She also told the court Palacio, on trial for first-degree murder, smiled as he committed the crime.

"He walked up to my husband after he was lying face-down, and he shot him more in the back," she said.

The fatal Kendall shooting happened at Palacio's Kendall home when Paul and Jennifer Winter dropped off the children she shared with her ex. The then-6-year-old twins saw the alleged crime from their mother’s van.

At trial Wednesday, prosecutors asked Jennifer Winters why her husband left the vehicle, which was when he was allegedly shot by Palacio.

"To protect the kids,” she answered. “Why are we going to leave my 6-year-old kids with somebody screaming and cursing?"

The prosecution argued Palacio shot Winter six times out of a jealous rage that stemmed from a bitter divorce.
