An armed man who robbed a Fort Lauderdale Walgreens store Tuesday morning threatened a woman with the gun after she tried to stop him from fleeing, police said.

The robbery happened just after 6:30 a.m. at the store at 1515 E. Sunrise Boulevard when the suspect, posed as a customer, approached the register, Fort Lauderdale Police said.

The suspect handed cash to the cashier for his items but when the register opened, he jumped over the counter and started grabbing cash, police said.

When he tried to flee the parking lot, a Good Samaritan used her car to block his vehicle. The suspect pulled out a gun and demanded the woman move, and she complied, police said.

No one was injured in the incident. Detectives are still investigating the robbery and reviewing surveillance footage.

Police describe the suspect as a black male, about 30 years old and 5-foot-11, who was wearing a red and blue checkered shirt and jeans. He fled the scene in a compact silver sedan, possibly a Honda or Hyundai, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
