Witness Jeremy Mohler said he was running on the Venetian Causeway when he saw a police officer following a man who was walking. He said the man was yelling at the officer and the officer was saying something back to him.

“It looked like he was having some issues and was being aggressive with her, at least vocally, and she just jumped out the car and ran with a gun right by me,” Mohler said.

Mohler said seconds later, he heard a gun go off.

“Another cop was running from the other way and from what I could tell it looked like the bullet hit him in the leg,” Mohler said. “It looked like the cop shot at the other person and hit the other cop.”

Miami Beach, City of Miami and Miami-Dade Police went to show their support for the officer at the hospital.

As detectives investigate how this happened, Mohler wants to forget what he witnessed.

“Now I have to go process it all with my buddies and work through that,” Mohler said. “I was afraid, but I was concerned about what was happening.”

Miami Beach Police confirmed that after an interview process, investigators decided against formal charges.

The person involved was reportedly experiencing a mental health crisis and later transported to a local medical facility, according to Miami Beach police.
