Two Officers Injured in Florida City Chase Crash

Officers air-lifted to Ryder Trauma Center after crash during robbery suspect chase

Two officers were hospitalized after they were involved in a crash while chasing some home invasion suspects in Florida City early Monday.

The incident began with a home invasion in the 12000 block of Southwest 265th Terrace around midnight, police said.

According to Miami-Dade Police, three armed men entered George Owen's home, tied him up and threw clothes on him so he couldn't see.

Owen said he believed the three men let three more people into his house during the incident, police said. He added that he thought they were in his home for about an hour, police said.

They took both of his vehicles from the home and demanded keys and valuables, police said. They also took a TV set, a safe, a computer and a digital camera.

When the suspects left, Owen got free, grabbed his keys and activated the silent hold up alarm and fled to his neighbor's house, police said. The suspects were then spotted by officers, who gave chase.

During the chase, a police car was involved in a crash in the area of 192nd Avenue and 377th Street.

Officials said the officers' car hit a ditch, casuing it to flip over. Both officers had to be air-lifted to Ryder Trauma Center. One was released later Monday, while the other remained hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

Two of the home invasion suspects, identified as 14-year-old Esteban Olevra Reyna and 15-year-old Jonathan Martinez, were taken into custody, police said. A third was still at large.

The victim's truck was recovered, but his motorcycle, a black and orange Honda with plate 115OLM, was still missing.

Police are still investigating and are asking anyone with information to call Miami-Dade CrimeStoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
