Broward Sheriff's Office officials said eastbound and westbound traffic on Cypress Creek Road, McNab Road and 3rd Street was closed from Powerline Road to Dixie Highway due to the derailment. Motorists were advised to seek alternate routes.
Thursday's rain hampered efforts to re-rail the cars and delays were expected to continue into Friday.
Tri-Rail officials said they expect to be back on the track by Friday, but there will only be one track operational. They're notifying passengers to expect delays for the commute. They also recommend seeking alternate transportation, if possible.
The cause of the derailment is still under investigation.
