Tornado Confirmed After Heavy Rain, Severe T-Storm in South Florida

Cities impacted include Coral Springs, Pompano Beach, Boca Raton, Deerfield Beach and Delray Beach

Heavy rain continued to roll through South Florida Friday afternoon after the National Weather Service issued tornado and severe thunderstorm warnings in Broward County.

A flood advisory was issued for northern Broward until 7:30 p.m. but was canceled around 6:20 p.m.

Some cities that could experience flooding include Fort Lauderdale, Coral Springs, Pompano Beach, Deerfield Beach and Tamarac.

The tornado warning was issued for northern Broward around 2:40 p.m. and was canceled around 3 p.m. Southeastern Palm Beach County was also included in the warning.

A trained spotter reported a tornado in the area of Coral Springs and Margate near University Drive and Wiles Road around 2:38 p.m. NWS confirmed an EF-0 tornado occurred in Coral Springs.

The severe thunderstorm warning was also issued for northern Broward and southeastern Palm Beach, ending at 3:30 p.m. Cities impacted include Coral Springs, Pompano Beach, Boca Raton, Deerfield Beach and Delray Beach.

A severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado had been located over Parkland, or over Coral Springs, moving east at 10 mph, according to the NWS.

The National Weather Service also issued a Significant Weather Advisory for southern Broward County that ended 9:30 p.m.
