Tornado Touchdown Confirmed in St. Lucie County

Two tornadoes touched down in Port St. Lucie County, Florida, as severe weather pummeled the region Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

Teams from NWS Melbourne surveyed two tornadoes: one in the Lakewood Park area and the second just west of the Saint Lucie County Airport.

The EF-1 twister in Lakewood Park brought 80-90 mph winds to the area around 3 p.m. and carved a path about half a mile long and 75 yards wide, according to the weather service.

The second tornado, an EF-0, struck a trailer park near Fort Pierce about 20 minutes later. Winds of 65-75 mph ripped through the park, damaging several mobile homes and blowing over three RVs. A large tree also snapped, the NWS said.

At least 15 homes were damaged, according to the NWS. Residents reported downed trees, broken fences and pool enclosures as well as several roofs peeled back.
