"This is the nightmare I never wanted. And it happened today," Segarra said.

The suspects managed to steal the goods, but it was a person who was passing through the shopping center who immediately called the authorities.

At noon the police were at the store where the scene remained active.

According to Miami-Dade Police, the thieves were able to go through the wall of an adjacent business then used a stolen tow truck to remove a safe, which contained about $500,000 worth of jewelry.

Segarra said the thieves also took almost all of his inventory and cash.

Police said the owner of the stolen tow truck was able to activate the GPS locator in the vehicle, and police were able to track it to a warehouse with the help of the Florida Highway Patrol and Hialeah Gardens Police.

Four people were seen fleeing from the tow truck and after police set up a perimeter, two of them were taken into custody.

Those two men, ages 49 and 37, were detained, while the other suspects were at large, police said.

According to Segarra, there are a dozen employees who are being affected by this theft, especially in December which is usually the store's best sales month.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
