Tampa Bay Bucs Owner Malcolm Glazer Dies

Malcolm Glazer, the self-made billionaire who owned the NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers and English soccer's Manchester United died Wednesday at the age of 85.

The reclusive Palm Beach businessman had been in failing health since April 2006 when a pair of strokes left him with impaired speech and limited mobility in his right arm and leg.

Glazer purchased the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 1995 and through his hires and management style, transformed the team once known as the “Yucks” into a top NFL franchise that won the Super Bowl in 2003.

Under Glazer’s ownership, the Buccaneers went to the playoffs seven times, won five playoff games and the Super Bowl.

Glazer raised his profile internationally when he purchased Manchester United, one of the most recognized soccer teams in the world. The move was bitterly opposed by fans of Man. U. Still, the team won five premier league titles under Glazer’s ownership and won the 2008 UEFA Champions league.

According to NFL.com, Glazer leaves behind his wife, Linda, along with six children and 14 grandchildren. The Buccaneers’ team site said Linda Glazer, along with the six children, will continue to own and operate the Bucs.
