Authorities were investigating after a suspicious item was found on a plane that was headed to Cuba from Miami International Airport Monday.
The item was found at Gate 23 at Concourse F for Sun Country Airlines' flight to Santa Clara, airport officials said.
It had been on the plane at some point, police officials said.
The plane was supposed to leave at 2 p.m. but was delayed, officials said. The 143 passengers on board the plane were evacuated, as were Gates F-19 and F-20, officials said.
Miami-Dade Police and a K-9 team responded to the scene. The suspicious item was later cleared and the airport returned to normal operations, officials said.
Police said the item was a flashlight that was wrapped in fabric with possible wiring exposed. Bomb squad members blew it up as a precaution, officials said.
