Suspect shot into car with man, woman inside on Turnpike in SW Miami-Dade: Police

A person of interest was being questioned in a shooting on the Florida’s Turnpike in Miami-Dade that left a man hospitalized.

A suspect was arrested after authorities said he opened fire on another car on the Florida's Turnpike in southwest Miami-Dade late Monday, leaving a man in critical condition.

The incident happened shortly before midnight in the northbound lanes of the Turnpike near Southwest 257th Terrace.

Miami-Dade Police officials said it appeared the shooter drove up alongside the victim’s vehicle and fired into it.

Both a woman and a man were inside the targeted vehicle. The man was shot and taken to the hospital in critical condition. The woman was not injured, police said. 

The shooter may have known someone in the car, according to authorities.

Police later confirmed that a person of interest was taken into custody in connection with the incident.

Officials haven't released the identities of anyone involved in the incident.

A police presence could be seen a few blocks away from the scene of the shooting Tuesday morning. Authorities have not confirmed if that police response is connected to the shooting on the Turnpike.
