Family Member Present as Suicidal Man Set Himself on Fire: Police

The Miami Gardens Police Department said a man set himself on fire in an attempted suicide.

The incident occurred at about 7:30 p.m. in the area of NW 22nd Ave and NW 156th Street.

"Preliminary investigations revealed that the incident was an attempted suicide," MGPD said in a statement. "A family member was on the scene. The victim doused himself with gasoline obtained from the Caraff Oil gas station."

Good Samaritans attempted to put out the fire. The man was transported to the UM/JM Burn Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center.

The man's condition has not yet been updated.
