Shark Spotted in Waters off Sunny Isles Beach

A shark was seen in the canals of the intercoastal near 165th and Collins Avenue on Wednesday.

A shark was spotted in the waters off South Florida Wednesday just hours after a 10-year-old boy was bitten in the leg by a shark in Daytona Beach.

An NBC 6 viewer sent in video of a shark she spotted while standing on her balcony in Sunny Isles Beach.

The shark was believed to be about four feet long and was seen in the canal of the Intracoastal near 165th Street and Collins Avenue at about 11 a.m. The viewer, who did not want to be identified, said she sent the video into NBC 6 out of concern for public safety because so many people paddle board in the area.

A kayaker at Oleta State Park said Wednesday's sighting will not keep him out of the water.

"I don't know if it's mating season or what. I mean I personally don't know much about them. I just know it's just like any other natural thing. They're out there," said Mark Lopez.

The 10-year-old who was bitten in Daytona Beach was treated on the scene and released. It was the fourth reported shark bite in Volusia County this year.

Less than two weeks ago in Cocoa Beach, another 10-year-old was also bitten in the calf. This past weekend in North Carolina, two kids were attacked within an hour and a half of each other. Most of the attacks occurred in waist deep water.
