Freshman Stabs Senior at Westland Hialeah High

A Westland Hialeah Senior High School student was hospitalized after he was stabbed by another student during a fight Tuesday, officials said.

Hialeah firefighters responded to the school at 4000 W. 18th Avenue around 11 a.m.

Miami-Dade Public School officials said a freshman and a senior got into an altercation and during the fight the freshman pulled out an X-acto knife and cut the senior in the chest and forearm.

Officials said the incident happened in a school bathroom. Witnesses said the fight started because the senior stepped on the freshman's shoe.

"It was unnecessary," student Jonathan Borrego said.

Witnesses also said the two didn't know each other and didn't have any prior issues.

The 18-year-old senior was taken to Palmetto Hospital with a non-life threatening injury, officials said. The knife was recovered at the scene.

The 15-year-old freshman is facing an aggravated battery charge, officials said. The incident remains under investigation.
