Exactly four years after Broward Sheriff's Office Sgt. Christopher Reyka was gunned down while on-duty, the county's top cop said he's still on the trail of the murderers.
"Not a day goes by that I don't think about this case," Sheriff Al Lamberti said Wednesday. "I'm disappointed someone hasn't been charged but not discouraged."
It was on August 10, 2007, that Sgt. Reyka was shot and killed in the parking lot of a Walgreen's in Pompano Beach while investigating a suspicious car.
The 51-year-old was an 18-year veteran of the force who left behind a wife and four kids.
While no one had been charged in the murder, Lamberti said authorities are still working hard to solve the case.
"The investigation is heading in the right direction," said Lamberti, who wears a pin daily with Reyka's badge number, 9463. "When we charge somebody, we're gonna make sure it's a lock.
"There's a killer out there who needs to be brought to justice."
Lamberti joined family, friends and co-workers of Reyka as they visited the Walgreen's Wednesday, where a police chaplain said a quiet prayer.
The Reyka case has been featured on "America's Most Wanted" several times, and Lamberti said there's still a $267,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
