Man Arrested After Allegedly Setting Wife on Fire Inside Plantation Parking Lot

A man was arrested Monday for allegedly setting his wife on fire in Plantation.

Police in Plantation have arrested the man they say set a woman on fire in a shopping center parking lot.

The incident took place around 8 AM Monday morning off Broward Boulevard near NW 70th Avenue. Officials say that Noel Garcia De Armas had an argument with the female victim – later identified as his wife – before dousing her with gasoline and lighting her on fire as she arrived for work.

"Apparently he was waiting for her in the parking lot when she showed up here for work, she works here at one of the businesses in the shopping center," said Det. Philip Toman.

De Armas later fled the scene in a white Ford F-350 truck with a tool box in the back. Officers arrested him at another shopping center off Cleary Blvd. and Nob Hill Road after he called police.

A passerby with medical expertise helped the victim and put out the fire. An ambulance rushed her to Jackson Memorial Hospital's burn unit. She was listed in critical condition.
