Rick Scott is really putting where his mouth, or more accurately, he won't be putting any taxpayer money in his pocket.
The Republican gubernatorial candidate and multimillionaire vowed Friday he would not to take the $130,000 salary if he is elected governor, reports the Sunshine State News blog.
"That's not important to me," he said in a radio interview in Jacksonville. "I'm really not doing it for the salary."
It's going to be hard for his rival, Bill McCollum to top that pledge. Some critics might say you get what you pay for and that nothing in life is free.
Scott, who is worth over $200 million according to his financial disclosure forms, has campaigned on a platform of curbing government spending in Tallahassee and it looks like he is starting with himself.
It's unclear if he will return the money to the state or donate it to some charity, but we could think of a few South Florida teachers who wouldn't mind the governor covering their salaries.
