It looks like Ponzi schemer Scott Rothstein could have some familiar company in prison soon.
Another of the former South Florida attorney's associates has pleaded guilty in connection with his billion-dollar scheme to defraud investors, federal prosecutors announced Tuesday.
Howard Kusnick, 59, faces five years in prison after he pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud.
Kusnick was an attorney at Rothstein Rosenfeldt and Adler, P.A. and admitted to misleading two clients in order to get them to invest large sums of cash to help conceal Rothstein's Ponzi scheme, prosecutors said.
Kusnick and four other former Rothstein employees were arrested last month.
Rothstein pleaded guilty in January 2010 to five charges stemming from the scheme, which was used to fund his lavish lifestyle, which included several businesses, large homes and luxury sports cars.
The 48-year-old is currently serving a 50-year prison sentence at an undisclosed location, but federal prosecutors have filed papers to have Rothstein's sentence reduced because he has been so cooperative with other investigations.
Rothstein's loyal right-hand woman at RRA, Debra Villegas, was sentenced to 10 years behind bars in October for her part in the scheme.
Kusnick is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 2.
