NBC 6’s Jamie Guirola has the story of a GameStop store that was hit by a group of armed robbers who forced one of the employees to strip and then empty out the register.
An armed crook robbing a GameStop forced one clerk to strip down to his underwear while his accomplices abducted another store worker and forced him to drive them around.
The robbery happened at the GameStop on Sunrise Boulevard in Plantation. An armed man entered the store and forced the employee behind the counter to the ground as the crook locked the front door. The robber then took the employee to the back of the store and made him strip to his underwear. The robber then brought the nearly nude employee back to empty the cash register.
“I think they had a plan. I don’t think it went down the way they wanted it to,” said Detective Philip Toman of the Plantation Police Department. “I think one of the reasons they had the employee takes off clothes was they thought he wouldn’t run out of store partially naked.”
While the employee inside the store was being robbed, another GameStop employee was making a deposit at a nearby Regents Bank. While making the deposit, two other men forced the employee back into his car and made him drive the duo to the backdoor of the GameStop where they picked up the crook who was inside the store.
Detectives said the driver was forced to drive the suspects around for 10 minutes before dropping them off at a Lauderhill apartment complex.
The crooks got away with approximately $175 and if they are caught, face a laundry list of felonies and potentially many years behind bars. Detectives said one of the subjects at the bank had his eyes tattooed.
