Rescued Dogs From Turkey Make Their Way to Florida

Golden retrievers from Istanbul, Turkey, are among a recent group of rescued animals that have made their way to Florida.

President of Everglades Golden Retriever Rescue Hermine Scolnik tells the South Florida Sun Sentinel that her group and four other rescues teamed up to bring the 18 golden retrievers to the state. The dogs landed Sunday following a 48-hour journey.

Scolnik says the dogs were neglected. Seven of them were under the care of a West Boca Raton animal hospital on Monday. The others were taken to other parts of Florida.

About two dozen dogs and cats fleeing flooding threats in Mississippi were also brought to a West Palm Beach rescue shelter. They were part of a pre-flooding evacuation coordinated by the Humane Society of the United States.
