A police officer shot and killed a suspect Saturday night inside a liquor store in Hallandale Beach.

According to the police, the 25-year-old male suspect died, and the officer involved is in the hospital in stable condition.

Police said they received a call before 6:30 p.m. about a man with a knife causing a disturbance at a business in the 2300 block of East Hallandale Beach Boulevard.

When officers arrived, they tried to make contact with the suspect, but he ran off to another nearby business.

The suspect got into a physical altercation with police officers, hitting one of them, then an officer opened fire, police said.

The officer who shot the suspect will be placed on leave while the incident is investigated.
