He was ‘dragging me': Man who tried to kidnap 13-year-old girl still on the loose

Police are searching for a man who tried to kidnap a 13-year-old girl in Lauderhill last month in an incident that was caught on camera.

The attempted kidnapping happened around 5:30 p.m. back on Oct. 7 near the 5000 block of Northwest 18th Court.

Lauderhill Police said the man approached the girl from behind and grabbed her right ankle, pulling on her and causing her to fall to the ground.

"I heard this guy like jogging or running behind me, so I moved out the way," 13-year-old Kymorah Reid told NBC6 on Wednesday. "He came behind me and grabbed my legs and started dragging me on the floor and stuff."

The girl was able to escape unharmed by yelling and fighting off the man, who fled on foot.

"I was screaming, 'Get off of me. What are you doing?'" the teen said.

She ran back home and told her mother.

"My daughter ran in the room and said, 'Mommy, somebody tried to kidnap me,'" mother Lois Kerr said.

By the time Kerr ran outside, the man was gone.

"It was devastating. Nerve-wracking, everything," Kerr said. "They tried to kidnap my daughter, like everything inside of me stirred, like turned upside down."

On Wednesday, police released surveillance footage of the incident and the suspect, who they described as a thin, light-skinned black male with a short haircut who was wearing a yellow shirt and red shorts.

A $5,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest in the case.
