One man is dead after police said they were forced to fire during a disturbance in Miami-Dade early Sunday morning.
Officials said 36-year-old Timmie Williams was wielding a knife and refused to put it down when police arrived to NE 14 Avenue and 144 Street around 2 a.m.
Williams then attempted to stab another individual on the scene, prompting an officer to shoot, Miami-Dade Police said. Williams died on scene.
Suspect Caught After Police-Involved Shooting
Rosalie Williams says she didn't get a chance to say goodbye and saw her son Timmie die in front of her home.
"He didn't say nothing, he didn't say he was police. Walk out the car start shooting him - and I'm saying you're killing him," Williams told NBC 6. "They would not let us come out here so I could hold my son. Kept pulling her gun out and saying get back in the house."
Police also found 50-year-old John Fisher with a stab wound. He was airlifted to Ryder Trauma Center and is in stable condition, officials said.
Local
The relationship between the two men is not yet known. No officers were injured during the incident.
Williams' family say they never saw a knife and that he was one of many caught in an out of control fight.
"Everybody started getting rowdy - a lot of people fighting. He saw his sister getting beat up and he ran to her defense," Rosalie Williams said. "He never should have come over here to that party, he'd been living now."
Williams had previous run-ins with the law and was released in 2008 after serving time for second degree murder. He also had robbery and grand theft auto charges.
