Husband and Wife Dead in Murder-Suicide in Broward

Authorities are investigating the deaths of a husband and wife in separate Broward County cities Friday.

Authorities are investigating the deaths of a husband and wife in separate Broward County cities Friday morning in what's being called a murder-suicide.

Officers responded to the 1800 block of Northwest 52nd Avenue in Lauderhill around 5 a.m. and found the woman had been shot, Lauderhill Police Maj. Rick Rocco said.

The woman was taken to Broward Health Medical Center where she later died, Rocco said. A short time later, the man was found dead in the 700 block of Southwest 70th Way in North Lauderdale.

Broward Sheriff's Office officials said the man committed suicide in his car outside his sister's home.

The husband was identified by the BSO as Luckson Tilus, who turned 31 Friday. His wife was identified as Wilner Tilus, 33.

Detectives believe the husband, who is the father of one of the wife's three children, shot her, then left with her 1-year-old child, Rocco said. He turned the child over to a relative before he killed himself, Rocco said.

The woman's three children are safe, Rocco said.

"This is obviously a very tragic situation," BSO spokeswoman Gina Carter said. "A man who committed this kind of heinous crime and then had the idea that he needed to travel after having done that with a one-year-old child."

Family members said the couple was having marital issues and that Luckson Tilus told a cousin that if he couldn't see his child that the couple shared he would kill himself.
