Two People Dead in Coral Gables Incident: Cops

A man and woman were found dead inside a business, authorities said.

Two people are dead in the incident that led police to shut down part of Coral Gables Friday afternoon, police said.

A man and woman were found dead inside a business at 801 Monterrey St., police said. Their attention was focused on the beige two-story building through the afternoon after the incident, which happened at about 12:15 p.m.

Coral Gables Police went to the business for a distress call and found the victims dead, and one person seen near the scene has been detained for questioning, Miami-Dade Police spokesman Det. Javier Baez said in a statement Friday evening.

Police said they're investigating the incident as a homicide. The exact cause of death will be determined by the medical examiner's office, Baez said.

Earlier authorities swept the area for more suspects using SWAT teams and K-9's, police said.

Police closed off streets including Capri to Cortez and 8th Street to Venetia, and warned residents to stay inside.

A gray BMW was cordoned off with crime scene tape in a parking lot across the street from the beige building, but police have not said what its role was in the incident.

Traffic in the area was at a standstill and cars were detoured.

Sedano's Supermarkets said in a statement that the incident "did not take place inside our store located off Granada Boulevard and SW 8th Street."

"We have been asked by authorities to temporarily close our store, and we are fully cooperating. The safety and welfare of our employees and customers are our top priority," Sedano's Supermarkets spokesman Javier Herrán said.

In a separate incident, two men were shot in Northwest Miami-Dade at 17901 NW 51st Place. Both men were taken to the hospital.
