Plantation Police are looking for a man who verbally harassed a woman on a public bus and then attacked a man who was trying to defend her, officials said. NBC 6’s Myriam Masihy spoke with Plantation Police Spokesman Phillip Toman about the incident.

Plantation Police are looking for a man who verbally harassed a woman on a public bus and then attacked a man who was trying to defend her, officials said.

Police said the man was harrassing 22-year-old Ashley Ahringer, a woman sitting next to him on the bus on Sept. 17th, according to Plantation Police.

Ahringer became agitated and switched seats with someone sitting across from them, but the man continued to harass her, asking her for sexual favors, police said.

Another passenger, 58-year-old Jimmie Singleton, stepped in to defend Ahringer, officials said. The suspect responded by yelling at Singleton and going to the bus driver to deny the harassment.

"I asked the girl to go on a date with me," the man can be heard saying on surveillance video. "She said no and now she's being a b---."

When he went back to his seat, he got into an argument with Singleton and lunged at him, according to officials. Singleton then sprayed the suspect with mace and the suspect hit him in the face, officials said.

The suspect was last seen getting off the bus and running away on the 1700 block of North University Drive, police said.

Anyone who may be able to identify the man is urged to call Detective Philip Toman at 954-797-2118 or 954-445-2942.
