Armed man dies after he's shot by officers in Fort Lauderdale neighborhood: Police

A man who was shot by police in a Fort Lauderdale neighborhood Wednesday morning has died, officials said.

The incident happened around 10:45 a.m. in the area of Southwest 25th Avenue and 22nd Avenue, just south of Broward Boulevard.

Fort Lauderdale Police officials said officers responded to a call for service involving a male having a mental health crisis, and received information that the male had a gun and was in a home with other people.

It turned out the man was in a home with multiple family members including an infant age child, police said.

When officers arrived, the man came out of the home with a gun in his hand and there was a police-involved shooting that left the man injured.

The 21-year-old man was taken to Broward Health Medical Center as a trauma alert, but police later confirmed he died. His identity hasn't been released.

Aerial footage from Chopper 6 showed a pile of clothes next to a pool of blood on the driveway of a home that was closed off with yellow police tape.

No other information was immediately known.
