"If you decide to celebrate at home, only buy fireworks from approved vendors, and always follow the manufacturer's instructions," Miami-Dade Fire Rescue spokesperson Erika Benitez said.
Only one person should handle lighting fireworks and they must light one firework at a time, remembering to move quickly to prevent injuries or burns.
"Light fireworks on a driveway or a paved surface away from grass or anything that can possibly burn," Benitez said.
But Benitez says it's important to note one must never attempt to re-light or handle fireworks that did not ignite the first time.
"Always have a garden hose, a bucket of water or a fire extinguisher close by, in case of an emergency," she said.
