Penn Dutch Meat and Seafood Market is permanently closing two South Florida stores.
The Hollywood location has already shuttered its doors, but the Margate location will reopen one last time Wednesday for a going-out-of-business sale.
The closures come after state inspectors reportedly found areas contaminated with listeria bacteria at the Margate store at 3201 N. State Road 7. According to the South Florida Sun Sentinel, a report from the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services says the bacteria was found in the seafood department, fish cooler, deli slicing room and chicken production room, among other areas.
The contaminated food was destroyed under the watch of state inspectors, the newspaper reported.
The last time food samples were collected from the Margate store was Aug. 6. At the time, no bacteria was found.
The Hollywood store at 3950 N. 28th Terrace was temporarily closed on Sept. 4 due to “unsanitary conditions,” a leaky roof and listeria bacteria, according to the report.
