Two suspects have been arrested after a 25-year-old officer was shot multiple times during a traffic stop early Tuesday, police said.

Orlando Police Chief Paul Rooney said Demetrius Patterson was taken into custody just before 8 a.m., WESH reported. He was found inside a home on Roseboro Street in southwest Orlando, WESH reported, after officers from multiple agencies conducted a grid search in that area.

Another person, who has not been identified, was apprehended and arrested in a wooded area, officials said.

Rookie Officer Jason Hajek, 25, was rushed to a hospital for surgery and is expected to survive after he was shot on Bruton Boulevard near Chandler Street, according to WESH. The shooting occurred at about 3 a.m.

"The driver got out and fired at the officer and struck him in the abdomen," Rooney said.

Hajek returned fire, striking Patterson in the foot, and called in after he was shot, WESH reported.

Patterson has been arrested 42 times before, according to Rooney.

He faces several charges in Tuesday's incident, including attempted homicide on a law enforcement officer, WESH reported.
