A North Miami Beach man is behind bars after police say he claimed to have killed his mother because "he lost it."
According to a police report, 29-year-old Luis Pages admitted to shooting and killing his mother, 59-year-old Miriam Gonzalez, to officers after a heated argument Sunday evening at their home on Northeast 135th Terrace.
Pages said the confrontation began when he asked his mother to use her car in order to search for jobs on Monday. He said he was told no because it was Labor Day weekend, and nothing would be open, the report said.
Pages told police that he and his mother argued about orange juice and the air conditioner remote control, but the argument escalated when Gonzalez allegedly threatened him with a knife.
Police said Pages then pulled out a gun and shot his mother multiple times before he threw the gun on the ground and hysterically called 911.
"He stated 'he lost it,'" the arrest report said. Pages did not know how many times he fired the weapon at his mother, but stated he always carried six bullets in the gun. He knew he fired every single one after he attempted to turn the gun on himself before realizing he had no more bullets, the report said.
Pages faces one count of second degree murder with a deadly weapon. Attorney information wasn't available.
