A North Lauderdale commissioner has been arrested on a domestic battery charge, records showed.

Regina Martin, 42, was arrested and booked into jail on Sunday, Broward jail records showed.

According to investigators, officers were called to a North Lauderdale home on Sunday, where they met with the 22-year-old alleged victim who shares the same last name as Martin, but officials haven’t specified their relationship.

The report states that the two got into an argument which then escalated into Martin allegedly throwing two plastic bottles of perfume at the alleged victim, hitting her in the arm. The victim sustained bruises.

Martin represents District C in North Lauderdale and is running for re-election this year. She faces two challengers in the Nov. 5 Election: Kimotta Johnson and Morfydd (Mar) Woodbine.

According to her profile on the North Lauderdale city website, Martin is a senior pastor at Embassy Church of South Florida in Oakland Park, and the founder and operator of Embassy College and The Embassy Academy, a K-12 private school.

She holds a doctorate in theology from Galilee Bible Theology School, her profile says.

The church said they had no comment about the arrest.

Martin was being held on a $250 bond. A judge ordered her to stay away from the alleged victim.

Martin also made headlines in 2022 after the Broward County Office of Inspector General found she committed multiple campaign finance violations during an election watch party in November 2020.
