Authorities say two persons of interest who surrendered to Miami Beach Police Wednesday night after an hours-long SWAT standoff and were brought in for questioning related to a recent murder have been released.
Miami Beach Police spokeswoman Vivian Hernandez said no one was arrested after the standoff at a home in the area of Hawthorne Avenue and 79th Street ended peacefully around 10:30 p.m.
Police say investigators wanted to talk to two men in connection with the April 5 murder of 16-year-old Robert Lakatos, who was gunned down on the boardwalk near 79th street in an attempted robbery.
But when they went to interview them Wednesday night, the two males ran into a home between apartment buildings and barricaded themselves there for about three hours, police said.
Five people who were inside the home were detained, police said.
"At this point no one has been arrested in relation to the Lakatos homicide," Hernandez said Thursday.
