"When police responded to the scene, they did locate two children under the age of 5 near the victim," Miramar Police spokesperson Tania Rues said. "They are presently being interviewed by people who are experts at interviewing children of this age."

Footage showed multiple officers with guns drawn and a SWAT team responding to the neighborhood while a perimeter was set up.

Officials confirmed a man who was found hiding in some bushes in the neighborhood was taken into custody.

“It was an extensive search. We had someone who was armed and dangerous and we did call out members of our SWAT team and assistance from Pembroke Pines Police as well," Rues said. "Luckily we were able to apprehend him several blocks away. He was hiding in bushes.”

The man arrested was identified as Derrick Feliciano Bergman-Williams and charged him with murder. He is the father of at least one of the children, officials said.

"I do want to stress that there is no danger to the community, we were able to locate the suspect," Rues said. "It appears to be domestic related. He had fled the scene on foot and was located several blocks away by a police K-9.”

Neighbors were shocked at the violence that unfolded on the street.

"It’s terrible because I can’t imagine that situation. My son is my reason for life so I don’t what is happening with the security in this neighborhood because I never saw that," Patricia Caceres said.

No other information was immediately known.
